About Jenny's teaching:
Jenny teaches a challenging, biomechanical and anatomically safe
style of hatha yoga combining breath, movement, clear alignment and
supportive instructions. Uniquely experienced in the art of adjustments
and therapeutics, Jenny brings anatomical awareness, humor and
compassion to both her group and individual instruction. She is a
registered certified yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance
and is a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists.
Style:
Jenny has created a unique hatha yoga style combining specificity of
alignment and anatomy with a loving flow of intuitive movement. Asana
instructions are delivered in her own clear, empathetic style.
Communicated with warmth and clarity, this form of practice resonates
deeply with students, enhancing both their physical and emotional
freedom.
Study:
Jenny has been has been steeped in healing and alternative therapies for most of her life. She
was introduced to meditation in 1978 at the age of 12 when her mother
and father took her to a meditation retreat in Southfallsburg, NY. In
her early twenties, Jenny spent two summers at the Omega Institute in
Rhinebeck NY where she got the opportunity to study various forms of
yoga and spirituality and a variety of alternative healing and
meditation styles. While at Omega, she also had the opportunity to study
Sufism and therapeutic touch. In college, along with her regular
academic studies, she took courses in yoga and holistic health. Before
having her two sons, Jenny studied hatha yoga in New York at Integral
Yoga and in the gyms. After the birth of her second child in 2002, Jenny
began studying in the Anusara style with the students of John Friend. In
2004, Jenny stopped her work as an interactive media art director and
took on the pursuit of teaching yoga fulltime. She completed her 200
hour certification at Yoga Montclair (RYT) and commenced a diverse
course of study, studying hundreds of hours with such teachers as John
Friend, Erich Schiffman and Genny Kapuler. Along with her Yoga Alliance
certification, Jenny has spent hundreds of hours studying asana,
anatomy, physiology, therapeutics and adjustments, pranayama (breath
technique), Thai Massage and meditation techniques with dozens of
teachers around the United States.
Work Experience:
From 2004-2006 Jenny taught at local yoga studios and community
centers including Yoga Montclair, Lotus Yoga Montclair Montclair and the
JCCs of Whippany and West Orange. In 2006, Jenny opened a yoga studio in
New Jersey which she sold to her partner in 2007. In 2008, Jenny started
a yoga program at The Wyoming Club in Millburn, NJ where she now
currently teaches public
classes.
Therapeutics Experience:
Since 2005, Jenny has worked with dozens of students with
health-related issues, both in public classes and privately, including
people with cancer, sciatica, herniations, knee, shoulder, foot, hip,
neck and back pain, asthma, bursitis, scoliosis, obesity, hormonal
issues, depression and anxiety. Many of them tell her that they
experience freedom from pain for the first time in their lives after
just one class.
Jenny lives in Millburn NJ with her two sons and her husband
Patrick O’Sullivan who is a humorist and a creative director.
